Travel Insurance and Peruvian taxes.

Travel insurance is compulsory in order to participate on any of our trips. When travelling on a trip with us, you will not be permitted to join the tour until evidence of travel insurance has been sighted by your leader or local operator, who will take note of your insurance details. When selecting a travel insurance policy we require that at a minimum you are covered for medical expenses including emergency repatriation. We strongly recommend that the policy also covers personal liability, cancellation, curtailment and loss of luggage and personal effects.

Buying travel INSURANCE for Peru.- The first thing to note is that regardless of how many names they may go under, all travel insurance policies breakdown into one of three product categories, namely:

BUNDLED TRAVEL INSURANCE POLICIES
CUSTOM TRAVEL INSURANCE POLICIES
FLEXIBLE TRAVEL INSURANCE POLICIES

As you might be able to imagine, each of these also has a difference in cost. Finding cheap travel insurance requires a bit of shopping and determining your exact needs.

Bundled travel insurange for Peru.- Bundled travel insurance is the type of insurance policy that most insurance salesmen try to sell you. The premium for this type of insurance typical costs between 6-8% of the vacation price; and the insurance policy generally covers such unexpected events as: medical expenses - usual maximum liability is $10,000 USD emergency evacuation - under a bundles policy there is usually a maximum liability of $25,000 USD for any emergency evacuation policy accidental death insurance trip cancellation or trip interruption - which can include such precautions as trip cancellations due to your being laid-off baggage claim loss - which may also include emergency monetary assistance provision; and in the event that you want to take out a bundled travel insurance policy, you are usually required to do this a week to 10 days after you have purchased the trip in question.

Custom travel INSURANCE for Peru.- Similar in nature to bundled travel insurance, custom travel insurance however allows you to customize your travel insurance to cater for your exact travel needs. In effect this means that if you are off to hike the Inca Trail, Rafting in Apurimac River, or cycling on the high mountains of the Andes you can increase your medical expenses and evacuation coverage for such a specialized trip. In most cases custom travel insurance allows policyholders to double the limits that are usually found in bundled policies.

Flexible travel INSURANCE for Peru.- Flexible travel insurance is a hybrid policy that is becoming increasingly popular. In effect a flexible travel insurance policy allows you to pick and chose parts of a bundled travel insurance that you want, and to discard parts that you don't want. The premium of the insurance policy is then set according to your needs. The reason why flexible travel insurance policies are becoming increasingly popular is because travelers are becoming more aware of the fact that they may be covered for certain circumstance under other pre-existing policies they already hold. For example, if a traveler already has health insurance, which covers any emergency health needs they may have when traveling they are unlike going to need this; as such, the elect to discard this part in their flexible policy.

Finally.- Regardless of which insurance policy you decide to take out, give very careful consideration to what you think your needs are going to be during your holiday. Whilst none of us plans for unforeseen events whilst we are away from home, the old adage of "it's better to be safe than sorry" has a ring of truth about it!...If you have credit card insurance we require proof of purchase of the trip (a receipt of credit card statement) with a credit card in your name. Contact your bank for details of their participating insurer, the level of coverage and emergency contact telephone number.

Peruvian government taxes

The Superintendence National de Administracion Tributaries as know SUNAT, is the Peru's tax authority. All purchases are sudjuct to the payment of the "Impuesto General a las Ventas (IGV - General Sales Tax) and the currency tax rate is of 19% and know IGV…By Peruvian law all traders have the obligation to show the client the final price, including taxes. Every time you pay for services or goods you must demand the payment voucher that is called "Boleta de Venta" (Ticket of Sale). Another type of voucher of payment is denominated "Factura" (Invoice), which is only extended to certain type of Peruvian taxpayers (19%).

The services of restaurants and hotels have in addition a Service tax being the rate of 10%. In a restaurant it is used to leave an equivalent tip between 5% and 10% of the consumption for the person that assisted you

SOUTH ADVENTURE PERU TOURS-CUSCO.- Recommend to book your tour package to Peru directly with Peruvian tour company. If you arrange and buy your tour package outside Peru you will pay taxes in your own country, when an overseas travel agency sends money to a Peruvian tour company who will be the "REAL" tour operator. This payment is exempt from taxes and this kind trade means you pay for a tour to Peru with a tour agency outside Peru, you contributing less to Peruvian economy, of course by buying any tour or services outside Peru you will still be helping the Peruvian economy by providing work for people involved in the tourism industry developed in different regions of Peru. PERU ADVENTURE TOURS pay sales tax every month, because our clients are direct sales by our website (online).SOUTH ADVENTURE PERU TOURS-CUSCO.- is officially registered by SUPERINTENDENCIA NACIONAL DE ADMINISTRACION TRIBUTARIA - SUNAT.

Tipping.- Tipping as know Propina or Servicio, normally the restaurants and hotels charge at the bottom of the bill. This means the restaurant or hotels have added a tip usually between 5 to 10%...When you are paying your bill in a restaurant, look for the words propina or servicio near the bottom of the bill. This means the restaurant has added a tip, usually between 5 to 10%...If you think the service is good, you can give the waiter an extra 10%. The cheapest restaurants usually do not include a tip. If this is the case, leave the waiter 10%. In better hotels you should tip about US $.50 a bag...For tour guides, a recommended tip is approximately $5 a day per person. If you are in a larger group you could pay half of that. If you have complete tour package to Peru you need think to tip your tour guide, driver, and other camps staff. Every tipping is welcome to our camp staff…All our camp staff is well paid and you are free to tip them or not.
