Nazca is unquestionably best know for the Nazca Lines: enormous geometrical and animal Figures etched into the vast , red Nazca desert. These incredible stylized drawings have been the object of lifelong studies for academics, most famously the German mathematician Maria Reich And theories abound as to their purpose and method of construction . Whatever their origin, this collection of shapes ranging from abstract shapes and crisscrossed lines to intricately reproduced whales , Monkeys , Birds and even a Haman –like form waving up at the heavens – can be appreciated with a flight above the Nazca Lines , a certainly unforgettable experience especially when you remember that you are seeing what their creators almost certainly never did , a short taxi ride away lays the equally astounding Aqueducts of Cantalloc ; ancient facts of engineering.
That were built to provide water to the desert for agricultural purposes in a systematic way . 30 of these underground channels still function to this day and a living testament to pre-Incan ingenuity aside from these phenomenal attractions, Nazca city itself holds a few quiet, yet charming attractions, namely the museo Arqueoligico Antonioni and Maria Reich Planetarium, where visitors can learn about the theories and legends behind theses mysterious etchings , the fascinathing Nazca Lines are just one reason to visit this coastal dessert region that is rich in historical history
Day 1:Cusco-NazcaTransfer from your hotel at 4:20pm to take the bus of CIAL Royal class bus. leaves at 5:00 pm Cusco-Nazca arriving aprox.at 6:00am where our represent will pick you up from the terminal then you will be transferred to Hotel Masson Suisse to enjoy a shower and relax.
Day 2:Nazca-Flight Over-City Tour –Lima: Afterwards you will be transferred to the local airport of Nazca, located just 4 kilometers away from downtown. Upon your arrival at the airport, our staff will show you a video film about The Nazca Lines. This interesting documentary lasts about 40 minutes and involves serious information about the Nazca Culture, as well as the figures you will see from the air. For this aerial tour, you will board a small Cessna single-engine aircraft (Station air, Sky hawk or Skyline type), which has spacious room for 5 people, each person with a window seat. After the video, our English speaking pilot will proceed to give you a briefing about this air tour and also will give each participant a map of the archaeological zone, which shows all the figures you will see from the air. After some basic information about the Lines and safety instructions, you will board the airplane and will take off. In a matter of just 2 minutes you will be flying over the Nazca Lines zone, and the first figure you will see from the air it will be the whale. This beautiful marine deity is located on the eastern part of the archaeological complex, and was drawn over a big rectangular figure (see Nazca Lines map).
Afterwards, we will visit the pre-Inca cemetery of Chauchilla. For many years this pre Inca place was looted by treasure hunters, who ransacked the place completely, taking away all the treasures the mummies kept in their tombs for centuries. These grave robbers just left behind the corpses, which can be seen today all over the ground. In addition to skulls and bones, you also can see several century old tombs, as well as long human hairs, ceramic fragments and others remains scattered on the desert surface. After touring around we go back to Nazca to visit a Ceramic Studio, where a craftsman will give us a better insight about the Nazca Civilization and the colorful vessels they made hundreds of years ago; The local factory with the process of Gold extraction will be also visited.
Afternoon we will transfer you back to the hotel to pick up your luggage then12:30 Hrs pm transfer to bus terminal for the 13.30pm Ormeño Royal Class Bus to Lima arriving Lima approx 9.00 pm.
